Additional Details
Medtronic DST Series™ EEA™ OrVil™
EEAORVIL21
The DST Series EEA OrVil 21mm device is a DST Series EEA 21mm anvil assembly with the anvil head secured in the tilted position.
The anvil assembly is mounted on a 90cm long PVC delivery tube and is secured to the tube with a suture. When used with the DST Series EEA XL 21mm stapler, a circular, double staggered row of titanium staples is placed. Immediately after staple formation, the stapler knife blade resects the excess tissue, creating a circular anastomosis. The diameter of the staple line is 21 mm.
The EEA OrVil anvil is permanently affixed to the center rod and cannot be removed from the center rod.
DST Series EEA OrVil 21mm Device to be used with DST Series EEA XL 21 Single Use Staplers

- FDA Product Code: GDW
- FDA Product Code Name: STAPLE, IMPLANTABLE
- GMDN Term Code: 59875
- GMDN Term Name: Intraluminal circular stapler, single-use
- GMDN Term Description: A sterile, hand-held, manual surgical instrument intended to be used during open or laparoscopic surgical procedures of the alimentary tract, to create anastomoses (e.g., end-to-end, end-to-side, or side-to-side) via intraluminal (within the lumen) resection. It is designed to connect two portions of lumen (e.g., colon) with a single or multiple circular rows of staples, and then cut out the tissue within the staple line to create a new channel. This device operates via a manual lever mechanism and may be available in a variety of sizes appropriate to a specific luminal diameter. This is a single-use device.

Covidien’s AutoSuture business now resides within Medtronic’s Surgical Operating Unit, under the Medical Surgical Portfolio. This group is focused on delivering advanced technologies for minimally invasive surgery, with a deep legacy in surgical stapling, energy devices, and laparoscopic instrumentation.
Key products from the former AutoSuture line include:
- Endo GIA™ staplers and reloads – a flagship line of linear cutting staplers used in a variety of laparoscopic and open procedures.
- Signia™ – a powered stapling platform offering real-time feedback and adaptive firing technology.
- LigaSure™ – a trusted vessel sealing system for tissue fusion and hemostasis.
- VersaOne™ trocars – for secure and versatile access during minimally invasive surgery.
- Sonicision™ – cordless ultrasonic dissection tools that combine energy and precision.
These technologies form the backbone of Medtronic’s minimally invasive surgical portfolio, originally developed under the AutoSuture brand by U.S. Surgical Corporation, then acquired by Tyco Healthcare, which later became Covidienbefore merging with Medtronic in 2015. Today, Medtronic continues to build on this heritage, delivering solutions that enhance efficiency, precision, and outcomes in the operating room.
