Medtronic SSV Shiley™ Speaking Valve is a sterile one-way tracheostomy speaking valve designed to facilitate vocalization in alert, awake patients who are breathing spontaneously without assisted mechanical ventilation. The valve connects to a standard 15 mm tracheostomy tube connector and opens during inspiration to permit airflow to the lungs, then closes during exhalation to redirect airflow through the upper airway and vocal cords for speech.
