Additional Details
Medtronic Endo GIA™ Radial Reload with Tri-Staple™ Technology
Sets new standards for access, maneuverability, and staple line security and performance in variable tissue thicknesses.
In colorectal procedures, the Endo GIA™ radial reload is setting new standards for access, maneuverability and staple line security in LAR procedures. It may provide surgeons uncompromised access and visibility deep in the pelvis.
For thoracic procedures, the unique design and 360 degree rotation provides multiple angles and enhances access in the chest cavity for both open and VATS procedures compared to linear reloads. The Endo GIA™ radial reload may produce less stress during compression and clamping, allows greater perfusion into the staple line, and provides outstanding performance in variable tissue thicknesses.

- FDA Product Code: GDW
- FDA Product Code Name: STAPLE, IMPLANTABLE
- GMDN Term Code: 35615
- GMDN Term Name: Surgical staple loading unit, non-cutting
- GMDN Term Description: A unit containing non-bioabsorbable surgical staples (implantable and typically U-shaped lengths of wire made of implant grade metal) designed to be used with a surgical stapler (not included) to mechanically fasten internal tissues together (e.g., the subcuticular closure of skin or the approximation of the ends of bowel) to facilitate healing typically in abdominal, thoracic, gynaecologic, orthopaedic, or plastic and reconstructive surgery. The unit is designed to deploy the staples in multiples (e.g., as a row of staples) and is often referred to as a single-use loading unit (SULU) or reload.

Covidien’s AutoSuture business now resides within Medtronic’s Surgical Operating Unit, under the Medical Surgical Portfolio. This group is focused on delivering advanced technologies for minimally invasive surgery, with a deep legacy in surgical stapling, energy devices, and laparoscopic instrumentation.
Key products from the former AutoSuture line include:
- Endo GIA™ staplers and reloads – a flagship line of linear cutting staplers used in a variety of laparoscopic and open procedures.
- Signia™ – a powered stapling platform offering real-time feedback and adaptive firing technology.
- LigaSure™ – a trusted vessel sealing system for tissue fusion and hemostasis.
- VersaOne™ trocars – for secure and versatile access during minimally invasive surgery.
- Sonicision™ – cordless ultrasonic dissection tools that combine energy and precision.
These technologies form the backbone of Medtronic’s minimally invasive surgical portfolio, originally developed under the AutoSuture brand by U.S. Surgical Corporation, then acquired by Tyco Healthcare, which later became Covidienbefore merging with Medtronic in 2015. Today, Medtronic continues to build on this heritage, delivering solutions that enhance efficiency, precision, and outcomes in the operating room.
